A fine original colour lithograph from Vanity Fair, a magazine which was published from 1869-1914, featuring a large caricature portrait each week. These were drawn by various artists, the most famous of whom was Leslie Ward who used the 'nom de crayon' of "Spy". This portrait will come mounted/matted and ready to frame using archivist quality materials, mount size 18 x 12 inches, 47 x 31 cms. It will be presented in a cellophane wrapper with our label guaranteeing authenticity. We pack very well, between sheets of hardboard. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a portrait of Maj-Gen Charles Fraser, with the caption "Conspicuous & cool". With accompanying biographical details. Lieutenant General Sir Charles Craufurd Fraser VC KCB (31 August 1829 - 7 June 1895) was an British recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He was also a Conservative politician.

The first edition of this very scarce work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with a handwritten spine label adhered to the spine. An entertaining autobiography by John Fraser, published with the help of his daughter. It follows the course of his career from his time in the Royal Northumbrian Fusiliers, to his promotion to sergeant-major after twenty-five years of service, subsequently his selection to become a Yeoman Warder of the Tower of London, and lastly his promotion to Yeoman Gaoler. With a foreword by Major-General Sir George Younghusband. With a sixteen-page publisher's catalogue to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally sound, with marks to the front board. Cloth is torn to the joints in places. Shelf wear to the extremities. Front hinge is slightly strained but held firmly by cords. Front free end paper has been tipped in using tape. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with the odd spot throughout. Good. book.
