A virtual global sphere has resulted as a consequence to digital media, new media, and information communication technologies where many believe the available technological landscape has no boundaries. However, when it comes to the aspect of 'state secrets' that belief is split down the middle; for the producers of 'state secrets' they maintain that there are certain documents or information that should remain reticent to the public. On the other hand, there are those who hold the perception that there should be nothing like 'state secrets' and that state information should be public information.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Communications - Mass Media, grade: 94%, Communication University of China (Institute of Communication Studies), course: Theories of Communication, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this paper is to examine and criticize the representation of female body image by mass media. For decades the bodies of women have been tailored to highlight products and services by advertisers and owners of the media as a means of generating capital gains. This tailoring, has led to what many have come to accept as the 'ideal image of beauty' that every woman should endeavor to achieve. This paper continues the discussion on a topic that is widely and frequently discussed. The theoretical framework that this paper employs is based on one of the most applauded theory in communication studies; The Political Economy of Communication and Media theory, which was first coined by Dallas William Smythe. This theory is pertinent to understand the presence of the commercial forces behind creating and maintaining this ideal body image, particularly by advertisers in mass media. The form of mass media that this paper concentrates on is women's magazine, with specific focus on advertisements regarding beauty and cosmetic products/services. Additionally, case studies in the US and China are used to depict the influence mass media representation of female body image on women.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Cultural Studies - Caribbean Studies, grade: 94%, Communication University of China (Institute of Communication Studies), course: Inter-cultural Communication, language: English, abstract: In 1964 famed communication scholar and theorist Marshall McLuhan coined the term 'global village' in reference to the world and its evolving transformation. The term has since been widely used in media, communication, and culture research studies. McLuhan used the term to 'describe the world that has been 'shrunk' by modern advances in communications, he compared the vast network of communications systems to one extended central nervous system ultimately linking everyone in the world' (The American Heritage, 2005).It is on this premise that globalization has been revolutionized. Globalization is not a new concept but has changed drastically as a result of advanced communication and information technologies creating border less landscapes politically, economically, socially, and culturally. Globalization is not universally defined, as it is understood from varying perspectives and academic disciplines. Jones M. Jaja (2010) suggests that 'globalization is the aspiration to integrate all the societies in the world, all the societies on the globe' (p.115). Jaja (2010) further concludes that globalization and Americanization, although share the similarity of homogenizing the globe, they are not the same; 'Americanization of the globe is the worldwide spread and dominance of American influence and culture' (p.117).

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Communications - Mass Media, grade: 88%, Communication University of China (Institute of Communication Stuides), course: International Communication, language: English, abstract: For many people, it is of paramount importance that life is preserved in every sense of the word. But for terminally ill patients, life seems hopeless to the point where death becomes their only way out of suffering and excruciating pain. This paper identifies two terminally ill patients' cases and their pursuit to fight for their right-to-die. To identify their cases, this paper examines literature on physician assisted suicide and active euthanasia coupled with the news articles. This examination indicates that there are vast distinctions between the two methods terminally patients can use to die. These methods, arguments for and against, and the media representation of both patients' cases are the central platforms of this paper. I hypothesized that the media portrayal of terminally ill patients' right to physician assisted suicide or voluntary active euthanasia is positive and this portrayal is geared towards support for those patients' right-to-die. This hypothesis hinges on media articles on Brittany Maynard and Grace Sung Eun Lee cases as portrayed in online news sources.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Pedagogy - Media Pedagogy, grade: 94%, Communication University of China (Institute of Communication Studies), course: Media Literacy, language: English, abstract: In many parts of the world it is becoming more pertinent today than ever before that media education and or media literacy are included in the education, political, and social systems of society. In the past 40 years, media education has transcended 'from a fringe concern to a global movement' (Lee, 2010, p. 2). This is necessary to counter the challenges of 'uneven access, misinformation, and exposure to harmful content' (Martinsson, 2009). Moreover, the drastic changes in the world today in terms of communication and media cannot be ignored. It is clear as asserted by Douglas Kellner and Jeff Share (2007) that we are living in a 'media saturated, technologically dependent, and globally connected world' (p. 3).

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2015 in the subject Communications - Media and Politics, Politic Communications, grade: 95%, Communication University of China (Institute of Communication Studies), course: Master Thesis - News Framing, language: English, abstract: This thesis aims to analyze how BBC News frames China's National Image. The general objectives are to determine the most dominant frames used and to identify the motives behind the choice of frames used. This study, through the use of qualitative content analysis looks at all BBC News online reports on APEC CEO Summit 2014 and Occupy Central protests in Hong Kong. Framing and Agenda-Setting communication theories were researched and used throughout the study. This study is significant because it contributes a new perspective to the academic discussion on Western media framing process of China's National Image. This study found that China's National Image is represented unfavorably by BBC News and that the frames used were dependent on the specific event. Moreover, this research found that BBC News reporting of both events was bias, which can be attributed to journalists' routine practices and organizational ideology regarding BBC News reporting on China-related events. This discourse is relevant and important. It provides valuable insights to contemporary China about BBC news' representation of its image. Given the findings, it is fair to assert that BBC News, through its reporting on China-related events aims to misrepresent the image of China. The results may encourage further discussion on the existing phenomenon about Western media framing of China.
