A comprehensive history of the Franks, with chapters on the Merovingian Kingdoms, churches, and lifestyle, including commentary on the social order, marital conditions, knowledge and culture. Originally written by Gallo-Roman historian, Gregory of Tours, known as the Father of French History. Translated with an introduction by Ormonde Maddock Dalton, a British museum curator and archaeologist considered an expert in Medieval art. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor rubbing to the extremities. Sunning to the spine and the odd small mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary pencil and ink inscriptions to the front endpaper dated 1949. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown. Very Good. book.
