First Draft script for the 1970 film "Cold Sweat," here under the working title, "The Visitors of the Night." Brief annotations in manuscript ink on a few pages. Based on Richard Matheson's 1959 novel, "Ride the Nightmare." Joe (Bronson) is a US Army sergeant imprisoned in Germany during the Korean War. During his prison stay, he meets a few men and they decide to escape, one of the men killing a German police officer along the way. Joe, disgusted, abandons his fellows and leaves them to be recaptured. Years later, they track Joe down and use him and his boat rental company to smuggle drugs, holding his wife and daughter hostage unless he agrees to offer assistance. Shot on location in France. Printed tan titled wrappers. Title page present, undated, noted as First Draft Screenplay, with credits for screenwriters Eisinger and Bennett. 118 leaves, with last page of text numbered 117. Mechanical duplication on white stock, with green pages throughout. Pages and wrapper Near Fine, bound internally with a silver prong brad.

4pp., 12mo. In fair condition, lightly aged, with closed tears along the fold between the two leaves of the bifolium. Trench's publishers were 'John W. Parker & Son, West Strand'. The letter begins: 'I heartily wish that I could go to the press at once with the 3rd. Edition of the Parables. [ 'Notes on the Parables of Our Lord', first published in 1841 ] I have been however working hard at them & they are nearly ready. Before however they are quite ready I shall be so close upon my last Hulsean Lectures, which as yet are for the most part unwritten, that I shall be obliged to defer actual printing till those are prepared as they will claim all my time - & instead of being ready for publication at the end of October, all that I can expect is to be about that time going to the press'. He continues with reference to 'the Cambridge Lectures & the Kings College appointment', and 'The Miracles' ('Notes on the Miracles', which would appear in 1846). He expresses sadness at the news of the recipient's father's ill health, with reference to 'Mr. Donne' and a 'school Roman History'. He ends: 'I think Mr. Parker is missing something in not availing himself at once of the offer of one who is so immeasurably superior to those who commonly propose themselves to do bookseller's work.' In a postscript he proposes to 'call at the West Strand' during the next week.

Note to be confused with the Kew curator William Watson (1858-1925). Both cards are plain: the first with a self-printed stamp and the second with stamp affixed. Both in fair condition, lightly aged. ONE (to Grinling): He identifies the fungi he sent, adding a comment on bacteoles of mallow. Ends in the hope of attending the Epping Forest foray this year . TWO (to Whitaker). The previous Saturday he noted Pyrus torminalis in the old rough lane between fences nearly opposite the Bull Inn on Shooters Hill (? Jack Wood Lane) . He notes that everything is extremely dry , and that he has pretty well given up toadstools, for the time being .

12mo, 4 pp. Bifolium. 32 lines. Text clear and complete. Fair, on aged paper. In answer to a request for autographs, she has 'some duplicates somewhere, but tonight I send you only three cards', as she has 'no letters of Miss Yonge that I should like to part with'. She names the authors of the 'three signed postcards' (not present) as: James Payne ('Editor of Cornhill, author of many novels'), Charlotte Yonge and Richard Monckton Milnes, Lord Houghton. Of the last she writes: 'I could not spare anything else of his, - & if you have another signature please let me have it back again - as also - the envelope - for that is also written by one who is dead - Hugh Conway - author of Called Back, etc. An envelope is better than nothing at all, I think.' She thinks it unlikely that Parker will be able to read the two men's cards, but assures him that 'they have written much more illegibly than they have done in these specimens!'.
