Wohl keine Verschwörungstheorie hat im zwanzigsten Jahrhundert derart fatale Auswirkungen gehabt wie die von der jüdischen Weltverschwörung. Sie mobilisierte bereits zu Beginn dieses Jahrhunderts die Antisemiten in aller Welt und fand mit den gefälschten -Protokollen der Weisen von Zion- ihre wissenschaftliche Legitimation. Dabei wurden die -Protokolle- erst zwischen 1894 und 1899 in Frankreich zusammengeschrieben und vom russischen Geheimdienst verbreitet - ein Machwerk mit dem die Opposition gegen den Zarismus getroffen werden sollte. Bei den 1903 erstmals in Buchform erschienenen Protokollen handelte es sich angeblich um die Mitschrift von 24 Sitzungen eines Kongresses von Repräsentanten der zwölf Stämme Israels , auf dem unter der Leitung eines Oberrabbiners die Eroberung der Welt ausgeheckt worden sei. Dieser Kongress hat nie stattgefunden, und schon bald sollte ans Licht kommen, dass es sich bei den Protokollen sehr wahrscheinlich um eine Fälschung der Geheimpolizei des zaristischen Russlands handelt, was jedoch die rasante internationale Karriere des Textes nicht aufhalten konnte. 1919 erschienen die Protokolle erstmals in Deutschland unter dem Titel Die Geheimnisse der Weisen von Zion . Herausgegeben hatte sie unter falscher Jahresangabe (1919) Ludwig Müller v. Hausen unter dem Pseudonym Gottfried zur Beck . Diese Schwindel- und Schmähschrift bot Hitler, aber auch arabischen Führern bis hin zu heutigen Antisemiten, ausreichend Stoff für ihre Hasstiraden. This historically significant edition of the infamous anti-Semitic fabrication/forgery "the Protocols of the Elders of Zion" was the first translation of the text into German and the first edition published anywhere outside of Russia. The popularity of this Vorposten German translation was such that by the end of 1920, it have gone through at least seven "editions" (printings). It is known that the Nazi Party purchased the rights to this specific edition in 1929. This edition, which for the first time saw the work's name changed to the now infamous title, was the work of publisher Ludwig Müller (1851-1926), under the pseudonym Gottfried zur Beek. The had been text taken directly from later editions of Sergei Nilus' work, originally known as "The Great within the Small, and Antichrist". Nilus' work, originally published in 1903, was notable in the fact that its 1905 second edition contained the first appearance of the Protocols in book form as its final chapter. Subsequent editions of that work focus completely on the extended full text of the Protocols. Text in German, finely printed in Gothic script, with numerous decorative woodblock initials throughout. There are a few instances throughout the text of illustrated figures in black, showing purportedly Jewish/Masonic symbols and images, as well a reproduction of a portion of the Jewish high holiday prayer "Kol Nidrei". The final numbered pages of this printing contain publisher's ads. The final unnumbered leaf contains a bound-in illustrated map of Europe in color, titled "the Kaiser's Dream", taken from the 1890 Christmas edition of the English investigative journalism periodical "Truth" (text in German, map text in English). In previous printings this map had been located at p.215. This printing moves the table of contents to the front and the and the extensive list of publications relating to 'The Jewish Question', which was previously bound at the end, is here printed on the interior front and rear covers. Wrappers lightly age toned, with some rubbing and/or creasing to corners. Head and tail of the spine chipped. Covers with some minor to light smudges and stains. Binding relatively tight. Interior clean throughout, with age toning to pages. A very small closed tear to the very top edge of some pages. Wrappers in good, interior in very good+ condition overall. Protected in modern mylar. A very nice copy of this scarce printing with variant covers. *The cover of this printing is notable in that includes the same flag image that was used in subsequent printings and includes and additional line of text in Hebrew under the German title (not used in other printings).
