Report of high level committee on balance of payments. Dr. Rangarajan's contributions are well known and well documented in a number of publications both Indian and international. But it has been strongly felt particularly by his colleagues who worked closely with him that his research contributions to various sectors of Indian economy are not available at one place. The present publication is an attempt to fill this gap and to provide easy access to some of his path breaking articles which are frequently referred to. Dr. Rangarajan's contributions are not confined to monetary economics as one may usually think but they cover a wide range agriculture industry planning banking finance balance of payments exchange rate policy and international monetary system. These subjects have been covered in the 24 selected essays which have been arranged under four sections in two volumes. The first section covers agriculture industry and the economy. The chapter 1 in this section entitled Agricultural Growth and Industrial Performance is perhaps one of the earliest studies to express fully the linkage between agriculture and industry. This section also includes a comprehensive review of the recent economic reforms. The second section deals with issues relating to monetary and financial sectors providing the analytical foundations of the Chakravarty Committee Report; an econometric model to study the relative impact of money supply on output ; and also includes detailed essays on the role of monetary policy and financial sector reforms. The third section deals with fiscal policy issues from the broader perspective of macroeconomic management including an article on the dynamics of debt accumulation which is perhaps one of the earliest articles to be published in India in this area. A reasonably large sized econometric model is also presented to study the impact of government expenditures financed through alternative channels. The last section includes articles on exchange rate management and on the evolution of the balance of payment scenario in the country. The Report of the High Level Committee on Balance of Payments of which Dr. Rangarajan was the Chairman is also included. This report is the only source which outlines the reasons for the shift of the exchange rate arrangement initially to LERMS and later to a marke.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - In this book input-output analysis is applied to the regional economy of The Netherlands. The re~ults are based on a publication of The Netherlands Central Bureau of Statistics: Regional Accounts 1960, The Hague, Staatsuitgeverij, 1968. Dr. Schilderinck and Mr. Sinner call special attention to the structure which are concealed in the cumulated primary costs of the final demand categories. Part I of the book deals particularly with a survey of this feature of input-output analysis. Part II starts with comparing the production structure of each industry in the eleven provinces of The Netherlands by means of semi-regional tables. Next, authors analyse the structure of the induced income resulting from a surplus or deficit of each industry on current final transactions per province. Thanks to its methodical elaboration the book is a valuable guide to those confronted with the problems of regional economic analysis. J. J. J. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The purpose of this study is in keeping with the shift in concern over the eco nomic problems of growth to those of income distribution in recent years. Income distribution problems may be analyzed by not only the traditional procedures, but also by some extensions of the input-output technique as I shall demonstrate in this volume of the Lecture Notes. Some fruitful results are obtained by applying the extended input-output technique to income analysis as well as to output analysis. This volume consists of three parts. These parts may be viewed along two veins, with some overlapping unavoidable: (1) Parts One and Two contain extensions of the input-output analysis and (2) Parts One and Three contain studies of the effects of the structure of income distribution on some other economic relationships. First, as an extension of the input-output analysis, we present a synthesis of the Leontief interindustry matrix multiplier and the Keynesian income multiplier in disaggregated form, and introduce a new concept which may be called the 'Interrela tional Income Multiplier' as a matrix. It is designed to analyze the interrelation ships among various income-groups in the process of income formation through the medium of industrial production activity. Although this multi-sector multiplier follows from Leontief's interindustry matrix multiplier, it is formulated by the inclusion of the income generation process, which is omitted in the usual input output open model, and by projecting the multiplier process into not only the output determination side, but also into the income-determination side.

Determinants of human development. 4. Impact of education and health on economic development. 5. Human development and economic growth: a causality analysis. 6. Summary and conclusions. Bibliography. Index. Human development plays a pivotal role in the process ofeconomic development. A countrys potential to grow is dependent notonly on physical resources but also on human resources. Humancapital formation is both qualitative and quantitative in the sensethat it involves attainment of the skills, education and experienceas well as enhancing the number of individuals who possess thesequalities. Modern concept of development is much more than the increase inincome and output. Rather, it is a multi-dimensional process whichinvolves the reorganization and reorientation of the whole economicand social system. It not only involves radical changes ininstitutional, social and administrative structures, but also inpopular attitudes, customs and beliefs. Economic development inmodern times is understood, inter alia, in terms of reduction ofpoverty, inequality and unemployment in a growing economy. Humancapital formation, thus, is central to any developmentstrategy. The present volume contains a comprehensive study on theinter-relationship between human development and economic growth, covering almost all the countries of the world categorized intodeveloping countries, high income countries, upper middle incomecountries, lower middle income countries, low income countries andall countries taken together.

India has posted a high growth rate since liberalisation in the 1990s. But, what does this number called growth rate mean? Has there been uniform growth in all sectors Has there been overall growth across all regions of the country? Have all social groups of people (such as the socio-economically backward, the elderly) been benefitted by this growth? Why is poverty still present to such a huge extent in India? To answer these questions and to discuss the challenges facing us today we need to look at growth and understand its many dimensions. This collection of essays looks at growth along three dimensions: 1. Measurement and methodology (Section 1): Essays on the current statistical system and various econometric models 2. Issues across the various sectors (Section 2): Essays on the performance of manufacturing sector, services sector and food procssing sector 3. Inclusivity of growth (Section 3): Essays analysing wage rates, health indicators, development in the North East states and status of elderly in the country.

Prosperity through fruit cultivation is the new slogan gaining much acceptance among policy makers. Presently, fruit culture has established its credibility in improving income through increased productivity, generating employment and enhancing export. The focused attention on investment in fruit production during the last decade has been rewarding in terms of increased production and productivity of fruits. India has emerged as second largest producer of fruits in the world. It has diverse climates and soil for cultivation of fruit crops providing ample opportunities for the development of fruit industry but the greatest challenge in present is to produce sufficient fruit to feed the ever-increasing human population. This demands infusion of technology for an efficient utilization of resources for deriving higher output per unit of input with excellent quality of the produce within short span of time. In the present era of open economy, it has become increasingly necessary that our produce is competitive, both in the domestic as well as in international markets. This would be possible only through deployment of high-tech application and precision farming methods. Fruits are very important for human beings and also play an important role in religious practices, mythology and art. They are not only delicious but also have many nutrients which are necessary for human health. Fruit production requires a lot of science and some basic fundamental knowledge to grow them successfully. This book compiles many fundamental issues of fruit production like layout and planting, many cultural practices, growth and bearing habits of fruit crops, planting and propagation method, disease and pest management as well as cost of cultivation etc. Understanding of all these topics will help the students and fruit growers for proper knowledge of fundamentals of fruit production. We hope that this book would also be helpful for fruit growers, nurserymen, farmers, teachers, scientists, extension officers and all those who wish to become familiar with the topic in relation to their professional interest. We have tried to keep the language as simple and straight forward as possible and consistent with accurate representation of the content. Every effort has been made to present the ideas in very easy and understandable language and the interests of each reader. We would like to recommend "Fruit Crops: Cultivation Practices and Economics" to students, educators, researchers, extension specialists and orchard practitioners for cultivation practices of fruit crops and their economics.

The book Modern Macroeconomics is adornments with illustrative examples drawing on data from Indian macroeconomy to help students relate the stark theory to the real-world situations. The book is the key reading for undergraduate students, as there are new developments and complications in the world of macroeconomic over the past several years. The book contains a number of mathematical derivations and conclusions. As such, the students are expected to have a grasp on the basic mathematical techniques even though they are supported by ample graphical illustrations. The book includes ';business cycles' which, in most cases, originate in the form of ';shocks' of some kind or other, thus posing challenges to macroeconomic management. The book has dealt with, atleast, one such shock in the form of COVID-19 pandemic with its fallout on the world economy. It may be mentioned here that by the time the book was going to the ';print', another ';shock' of greater magnitude was brewing in the shape of Russia-Ukraine war, threatening to lead to World War-III. However, this macroeconomic shock could not be taken up at its premature stage.

Bibliography. Irrigation through canals wells and other sources is considered as a catalyst of economic development of a country. Numerous studies have confirmed on the role of irrigation in increasing crop productivity intensity of cropping in India since the evolution of planning. However it also helps in reducing instability in crop production changes the cropping pattern in favour of high valued crops reduces inequality in income among various section farmers in the society. Simultaneously some scholars pointed out that the inequity in sharing gains of development resulting from investment in irrigation and some drew attention to the increase instability of farm output. Irrigation is not certainly considered as blessings on the mankind. Its side effect in the shape of water logging and salinity within the large canal commands have been considered as one of the important negative impact on the farms output. Based on the theoretical framework the financial economic social and environmental aspects of the project are analysed by applying the familiar cost benefit analysis technique. 306 pp.

Understanding human behaviour eludes scientific inquiries despite significant advances and great breakthroughs. Evenmore challenging is the quantitative analysis of human decisions for which econometric methods are widely applied. Econometrics analysis is the art of understanding the nuances of information contained in data and drawing meaningful inferences from the statistical techniques based on mathematical tools. Understanding the nature of data and identifying appropriate techniques for efficient and consistent estimates of the causal relationship is a great learning of a researcher that comes with practical experience only. The papers in this volume attempt to unravel the econometric issues of many economic problems. Using strong economic theories, rich data and powerful econometric methods, this book analyses the underlying data issues, identification of estimation methods, empirical analyses and draws inferences for many of the individual and household behaviours as well as state, national and international macroeconomic issues. The econometric methods that comprise this book are simultaneous equations methods, time series models, qualitative response dependent variable models and panel data methods. This volume demonstrates the comprehensive nature of econometric approaches that is at the heart of any empirical study and highlight the appropriateness of quantitative analysis for inferences from data, decision making and drawing policy implications. The book is intended to be a reference guide for.

Library stamps. - Those familiar with input-output analysis know well that compilation of input-output tables is a difficult statistical work. The very first input-output tables (e.g. such as those for the United States economy in 1919 and 1929 or for the Federal Republic of Germany in the fifties) were the results of applied economic research. But soon after, official statistical bodies, who understood that input-output tables consistent with national accounts can very much improve the quality of economic statistics, started systematic work in this field. It was also obvious that international exchange of experience can be useful. The two main internatio nal fora in which discussion of input-output compilation took place were the international input-out put conferences and United Nations bodies. Already at the First International Conference on Input-Output Techniques (Driebergen 1950) several authors analysed the relations between input-output tables and national accounts. The topic was also on the programme of the Second Conference (Varenna 1954). At the Third Conference (Geneva 1961) standardization of input-output statistics was a topic of a panel discussion of eight experts. The relevant papers, which are still of interest, can be found in published conference proceedings. Condition : good copy. ISBN 9783540115533. Keywords : MATHEMATICS,
