Early annotation to spine ("1823"), other annotations ("House of Reps.") to endleaves, a few more to text. A solid copy. * First edition. Toulmin emigrated from England and settled originally in Virginia. He moved to Kentucky and became the president of Transylvania University and served as that state's secretary of state from 1796 to 1804. He moved to Alabama a few years later and was one of the framers of the Alabama constitution, later a state legislator. Alabama Territory was created in 1817. The territory became a state in 1819.
