Twain, Mark: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. London, Puffin Books, 1988. ISBN: 0140350071
Sehr guter Zustand. Besitzername auf dem Vorsatz. - Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a book by Mark Twain, first published in England in December 1884 and in the United States in February 1885. Considered as the Great American Novel, the work is among the first in major American literature to be written in the vernacular, characterized by local color regionalism. It is told in the first person by Huckleberry "Huck" Finn, a friend of Tom Sawyer and narrator of two other Twain novels (Tom Sawyer Abroad and Tom Sawyer, Detective). The book is noted for its colorful description of people and places along the Mississippi River. Satirizing a Southern antebellum society that had ceased to exist about twenty years before the work was published, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is an often scathing look at entrenched attitudes, particularly racism. The work has been popular with readers since its publication and is taken as a sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It has also been the continued object of study by serious literary critics. It was criticized upon release because of its coarse language and became even more controversial in the 20th century because of its perceived use of racial stereotypes and because of its frequent use of the racial slur "nigger".[2][3] ... wikipedia-org-wiki-Adventures_of_Huckleberry_Finn Aus: wikipedia-org , ISBN-13: 9780140350074

The text is accompanied by explanatory annotations. "Contexts and Sources" provides readers with a rich selection of documents related to the historical background, language, composition, sale, reception, and newly discovered first half of the manuscript of Mark TwainaEUR s greatest work. In addition, this section reprints the full texts of both "Sociable Jimmy," upon which is based the controversial theory that Huck speaks in a "black voice," and "A True Story, Repeated Word for Word As I Heard It," the first significant attempt by Mark Twain to capture the speech of an African American in print. Mark Twain: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, (Level 4) Orient Blackswan
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884) tells us the story of Huckleberry Finn, known to his friends as Huck, whom we first meet in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. After being adopted by Widow Douglas, Huck tries very hard to lead a civilised life, but has to contend with his brutal father. Fed up with his father's cruelty he runs away. Soon he meets up with old Jim, a runaway slave. They decide to raft down the Mississippi River and they have the wildest adventures on the way. The brilliant description of the Mississippi is from Twain's own experiences as a steam-boat pilot. The sensitive portrayal of Huck and Jim, the hilarious crudity of the duke and the king and the staging of the 'Nonesuch' play, are but a few elements that make it one of the world's greatest books. New Softcover NA Rated among the great works of American fiction, Twain s classics paint an unforgettable picture of Mississippi frontier life, and combine picaresque adventure with challenging satire and great technical innovative power. It is really a great fun to look back at our own childhood as we relive Tom s romantic exploits through his eyes and our own in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Tom, an universally recognisable classic literary hero, is an intelligent and imaginative boy who is nevertheless careless and mischievous. He along with his friend Huck Finn accidently witnesses a murder for which an innocent man is wrongly accused. Together they succeed in revealing the truth, but now the real murderer is after their life. From the famous episodes of the whitewashed fence and the ordeal in the cave to the hunt for the treasure that Joe had buried, the novel is simply superb, readable and full of surprises. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a brilliant satire on racism, giving a taste of American life in the late 19th century, is equally interesting. Tired of the endless constraints of the so-called civilized society , Huck teams with runaway slave Jim. As they ride their raft down the current, they encounter many challenges. Having been taught that helping a Black, runaway slave is a sin unimaginable, Huck faces a harrowing choice between the social norm and the person who needs him the most. Owing to its wonderful story, filled with plenty of action, youthful innocence and backwoods charm, and twists and turns in the plot, reader won t be able to put this book down before its completion Printed Pages: 544.
