Bound in the original red cloth without the acorn device on the spine and with "A.C. McClurg & Co." in gilt at the base of the spine; with "W.F. Hall Printing Co., Chicago" set in two lines of Old English type on the copyright page. The first in a long-line of Tarzan books and the basis of numerous movies, comic books, and a television series. Enclosed in a custom-made slipcase of patterned cloth with a black-leather title label on the front cover. Very Good (covers bright with minor wear & slight dimple at the head of the spine; contents clean & tight with an occasional light smudge in text; few signatures slightly askew). Ink presentation from "Dorothy" on the front endpaper presenting the book on Nov. 18, 1914 and a long, humorous poem, also penned by Dorothy, in ink on the next blank page mimicking Shakespeare's famous speech in Hamlet: "To read or not to read..." & signed "With due apologies to the talented William.".
