* A straight run of the first 32 volumes of The Strand Magazine, not least famous for the publications of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories illustrated by Sidney Paget. In these volumes are the complete first editions of 'The Hound of Baskervilles' (serialised in 1901-2), and the short stories later collected in 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes', The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes' and 'The Return of Sherlock Holmes'. Volume six contains the dramatic 'death' of Sherlock Holmes in 'The Final Problem'. The Strand Magazine is also a brilliant source of Victorian entertainment and mentality.
32 volumes. Burleigh Street, Strand, London & George Newnes, London 1891-1906. Richly illustrated with wood-cut pictures. Bound in the original uniform light blue cloth with gilt lettering on the spine and a Victorian London cityscape on the front cover. Very good+, with a bit of edgewear. A few of the volumes have a contemporary name on the flyleaf and a few have a sligthly weak inner hinge. Last volume has a smaller, professional repair.
