A wonderful Rupert Christmas book from the 1950s with a stunning front cover of Rupert in the air in a basket with a witch, where Rupert has his arms stretched out to go into the arms of his mother whose arms are also stretched out waiting on the ground. The back cover has a great illustration of Rupert in his red and white striped pyjamas running for a toy train with a toy soldier This Rupert book contains the following three stories: § Rupert and the Greedy Princess (first appeared in the Daily Express newspaper 25th Oct 1934) § Rupert and Prince Humpty-Dumpty (first appeared in the Daily Express newspaper 5th October 1931) § Rupert and the Wooden Soldier (first appeared in the Daily Express newspaper 20th November 1926) Boards have wear to the edges with the front board having a small piece of paper missing to top edge; and the back board has creasing to the top surface edge. Seit dem Tag, an dem Pater Rupert Mayer gestorben war, hat eine ständig wachsende Zahl von Menschen das Verlangen gespürt, sich an den Ort zu begeben, wo die sterblichen Überreste des "Apostels von München" ruhen und dessen Vorbild unerschrockenen Glaubens und grenzenloser Liebe ihnen Ansporn und Kraft für das eigene Leben gab. Das ungewöhnliche Ausmaß dieser Verehrung veranlaßte die Kirche das Selig- und Heiligsprechungsverfahren einzuleiten. Die umfangreichen Untersuchungen dienten dem Zweck, die Authentizität und die Grundlagen des Rufes der Heiligkeit, die diesen Priester der Gesellschafz Jesu umgibt, zu prüfen. Nachdem in weiteren Untersuchungen festgestellt worden war, daß zahlreiche Gebetserhörungen und auch ein Wunder der Fürsprache von Pater Rupert Mayer zugesprochen werden müssen, entschloß sich der Heilige Vater, seine Seligsprechung vorzunehmen. Die Tatsache, das dieses bevorstehende Ereignis in München selbst stattfinden wird, ist ein Zeichen der besonderen Anerkennung. Not dated but published in 1950 by Sampson Low, this has wonderful original illustrated yellow green boards with red cloth spine of Rupert, Edward and Bill helping a little boy out of a hole in the ground. The back board pictures Rupert riding on a white horse with a fairytale Princess This is the first edition with 200 cut-outs (later editions in 1953, 1957 and 1959 had just 120 cut outs). The front and back boards have minor knocks and rubbing; the spine also has some rubbing and slight discolouration with a very small split to the back in the natural crease (about 4cms approx). An extremely attractive set of boards for this first edition. There are five stories in this book with the following number of cut-outs: Rupert in Trouble again (61); Rupert and the Old Man of the Sea (0); Rupert, the Witch, and Tabitha (55); Rupert and the Wilful Princess (0); and Rupert Goes Hiking (65). From our count there appears to be just 181 of the 200 cut outs present. Nevertheless, still an attractive first edition of this rare Monster Rupert Book First Edition No Jacket Pictorial Cover

Mary Tourtel: Rupert The Daily Express Annual 1978 Signed by the Artist Published by Beaverbrook Newspapers in 1978, this is a wonderful Rupert Christmas book with the front and back colour illustrated laminated boards drawn by John Harrold depicting a sledge drawn by a pony with Rupert on the back and waving to the reader surrounded by other characters. The boards are in Near Fine condition with very minimal surface wear and very minor knock to the top of the spine (hardly be noticed). The double page colour endpaper illustration features Rupert under water in a submarine where he meets cherub-like mermaids swimming around. This illustration is the same to the front and the back. However, the front pastedown has been signed in black ink by the Rupert artist "With best wishes John Harrold Canterbury 5th November, '94" Next to Rupert and his submarine. There are no other inscriptions in this book; the price ( 1.15) is still present; the pages are in Near Fine condition with only slight foxing to some pages; and the pages are tightly bound in.
