Edward Steichens work for "Museum of modern art" in New York ended with the exhibitions of Robert Frank and Harry M. Callahan from January till april 1962. Very important and very early publication about 2 famous artists with many photos in photogravure printing! Condition: Inside very fine and very clean. Front cover with minimal crease at the top right corner (not dramatic and does not concern the inner pages). Overall in excellent condition! "In August 1992 Robert Frank's good friend Reginald Rankin invited Frank on a trip to Pangnirtung, a village of around 1,300 Inuit inhabitants in the Arctic Circle. Im August 1992 folgte Robert Frank einer Einladung seines Freundes Reginald Rankin nach Pangnirtung, einem Dorf mit 1300 Inuits. Das Buch ist Franks Dokumentation seines 5-tägigen Aufenthalts. Frank zeigt das Dorf ohne Menschen in höchst einfühlsamen Bildern. Als Inuit bezeichnen sich die indigenen Volksgruppen, die im arktischen Zentral- und Nordostkanada sowie auf Grönland leben. Die Bezeichnung Eskimo wird als Oberbegriff benutzt, der auch die entfernter verwandten arktischen Volksgruppen der Yupik und der Aleuten umfasst. Inuit ist deshalb kein Ersatz für den Terminus Eskimo und ist auch nicht im Wortschatz aller um den Nordpol lebenden Volksgruppen enthalten. Die Sprache der Inuit ist Inuktitut (Nordostkanada und Grönland) und Inuinnaqtun (arktisches Zentralkanada). Robert Frank, der 1924 in Zürich/Schweiz geboren wurde und 1947 in die USA ging, wurde weltberühmt für sein Buch "The Americans" erstmals erschienen 1959, und gilt heute als einer der wichtigsten Fotografen und Künstler der letzten 100 Jahre.

"When Robert Frank had completed his first two films, he accepted a commission for a photo-book from the New York Times, which became Zero Mostel Reads a Book. In it Frank takes the comic actor Zero Mostel (1915-1977) for hissubject, and depicts him in cartoonish dimensions-bemused, baffled and apoplectic, as he makes his way through an unidentified hardback volume, seated at a table or on a sofa in a large lounge area. Originally published "for the fun of it" in 1963 and dedicated to the American bookseller, the book was intended as a present for customers yet it never reached the book market. It has been a collector's item since. Zero Mostel Reads a Book references a series of theatrical and playful vignettes in which Mostel's most famous roles-Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Max Bialystock in The Producers-are clearly signaled.
