Taylor, B. Society and Economy in Early Modern Europe, 1450-1789 : A Bibliography of Post-War Research. Manchester University Press, Manchester, first edition, 1989.
From the introduction: "Until very recently it was impossible to refer students to any convenient retrospective bibliographies which attempted broad coverage of the post-medieval economic and social history of continental Europe, and took adequate account of the new directions that have come to dominate research since the 1950s. The appearance of D. H. Aldcroft and R. Rodger's Bibliography of European Economic and Social History (also published by Manchester University Press) brought welcome relief to this situation for the period of the Industrial Revolution and after, though regrettably, if understandably, its coverage is restricted to English-language material. The present work aims to provide a comparable guide for the early modern period. Since the literature is not so overwhelming in bulk, it is conceived in rather more ambitious terms linguistically, and my hope is that it will prove useful in the early stages of research work as well as to teachers, undergraduates, and sixth-formers. Even so, it remains highly selective, of course, as any one-volume bibliography must, and all the more so given the shifting and ill-defined frontiers of social history. As the title indicates I have concentrated essentially on material published since the Second World War because of the great changes in method, range and volume of writing that have marked these decades; but in notes and occasional entries I have also indicated a few of the many valuable older works on which research has built. No publications later in date than 1987 are included, and scrutiny fo the two or three years before that has inevitably been somewhat patchy in nature Within these terms, I have tried to be as comprehensive as possible as far as literature in English is concerned - the principal disclaimer here being a reluctance to venture very far into the historiography of economic theory (especially that concerning individual thinkers) or that of colonial activity. Foreign language publications called for a much finer sieve...The explanatory notes are in the main designed to place entries in their scholarly contextA" or to provide further information on scope, length, documentary basis, review articles provoked, etc. "
