Irwin Blacker, during his life-time, was known largely for his concern with the history of the Spanish conquests in the New World. He wrote two excellent novels about the historical west 'Taos' and 'Westering' and edited two classic anthologies, 'The Old West in Fiction' and 'The Old West in Fact.' Additionally, he wrote screenplays for 'Bonanza'. Today he is best remembered for his 13 years as chair of graduate studies in cinema at University of Southern California where he lectured students like George Lucas, Gloria Katz, Francis Ford Coppola, Robert Zemeckis, John Milius, John Singleton et al about the art of screenwriting. These lectures were eventually collected as "The Elements of Screenwriting'. This classic collection of the best fiction ever written on that vast theme - the great American West, 'THE OLD WEST IN FICTION' contains: One complete novel: GRANT OF KINGDOM by Harvey Fergusson; Excerpts from: A.
