Randle, J. & R. Matrix : A Review for Printers and Bibliophiles, Number 11 [ Winter 1991 ]. Whittington Press, Andoversford and Risbury, first edition, 1991.
Ordinary limited edition, 1 of 850 copies, from a total edition of 955 copies. The Winter 1991 issue of this highly literate and gloriously produced chronicle of fine printing, private press work and the book arts. Each issue of Matrix is not only a thoroughly enjoyable read but also a visual and tactile delight with numerous tipped-in specimen papers, pieces of fine printing, etc - it really cannot be too highly recommended. "Matrix 11 was most notable for its historical items, straying outside our usual parameter of twentieth-century fine printing. A prime reason for Matrix has always been to record what is still within living memory (sometimes at one remove), rather than to analyse records left behind by earlier generations. But two of these pieces seemed so important that we broke with our usual rule. John Dreyfus most skilfully reconstructed Emery Walker's crucial lecture on letterforms given in 1888 before, amongst others, William Morris, and we reproduced nearly all Walker's slides in colour. James Mosley described the illustrations of typefounding engraved for the Academie Royale des Sciences in Paris in 1694, some of which we now published for the first time. CTD made a superb job of reproducing the very fine engravings by four-colour process. John Lane's long- researched piece on twentieth-century punchcutters (with an addendum in Matrix 12) will remain a standard reference on this complex subject. In a lighter vein, Joe D'Ambrosio wrote about the Compulsive Printer of Portage, Indiana; Jonathan Stephenson described setting up a Monotype workshop at the Rocket Press; and John O'Connor sketched the evolution of the classic Canals, Barges and People, his first book of coloured wood-engravings, published in 1950... The type used on the cover was Van Krimpen's Haarlemmer, issued by Monotype in 1939. Their first order for a set of matrices was from us in 1991." - John Randle, in David Butcher's Bibliography. Contents - Reynolds Stone and Cambridge by Brooke Crutchley; Twentieth-Century Punchcutters by John A. Lane; Punchcutting by hand: a View over; the Shoulder of Harry Carter by Steven Tuohy; A Reconstruction of the Lecture given by Emery Walker on 15 November 1888 by John Dreyfus; The Compulsive Printer of Portage, Indiana by Joseph D'Ambrosio; Illustrations of Typefounding engraved for the 'Description des Arts et Metiers' by James Mosley; Patterns from Lino by Marthe Armitage; Notes on 'Canals, Barges and People' by John O'Connor; Setting up a Monotype Workshop by Jonathan Stephenson; Three Artists at Haslewood Books by Peter Tucker; With Beam and Beetle: the Bark Cloth of the Pacific by Roderick Cave and Jo Torr; Stanley Morison and Jan van Krimpen, a Survey of their Correspondence by Sebastian Carter; On Preparing Designs for Monotype Faces by Jan van Krimpen; Twins by John O'Connor; Trilling with Typography by Desmond Flower; Skelton's Press and the September Press by Christopher Skelton; Compton Marbling by Solveig Stone; Christmas Cards Old and New by Enid Marx; Some Printers of the 1950s and 60s by Mark Arman; Gwenda Morgan, 1908-1991 by John Randle; Joseph Blumenthal, 1897-1990 by Jerry Kelly; Book Reviews; Private Press Books 1990 by David Chambers; The 1990 Fine Press Book Fair by Dennis Hall; Art Workers' Revels by Alan Powers.

The Matrix Reloaded. Warner Home Video,
085392185139 ISBN: 0790764008 NEW VHS Tape in shrink wrap! In Color, playing time 138 minutes. Warner Home Video, Inc., 2003. VHS Movie. Science Fiction. Editorial Reviews Amazon.com Considering the lofty expectations that preceded it, The Matrix Reloaded triumphs where most sequels fail. It would be impossible to match the fresh audacity that made The Matrix a global phenomenon in 1999, but in continuing the exploits of rebellious Neo (Keanu Reeves), Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) as they struggle to save the human sanctuary of Zion from invading machines, the codirecting Wachowski brothers have their priorities well in order. They offer the obligatory bigger and better highlights (including the impressive "Burly Brawl" and freeway chase sequences) while remaining focused on cleverly plotting the middle of a brain-teasing trilogy that ends with The Matrix Revolutions. The metaphysical underpinnings can be dismissed or scrutinized, and choosing the latter course (this is, after all, an epic about choice and free will) leads to astonishing repercussions that made Reloaded an explosive hit with critics and hardcore fans alike. As the centerpiece of a multimedia franchise, this dynamic sequel ends with a cliffhanger that virtually guarantees a mind-blowing conclusion. --Jeff Shannon --This text refers to the Theatrical Release edition. Description In the second chapter of the Matrix trilogy, Neo (Keanu Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) continue to lead the revolt against the Machine Army. In their quest to save the human race from extinction, they gain greater insight into the construct of The Matrix and Neo's pivotal role in the fate of mankind. .
