Popular French edition in Romantic boards, of the account of Colombus's voyages and adventures, translated from the American. Washington Irving (1783-1859), was the first Romantic novelist of America. The frontispiece shows Colombus being received at the Spanish court of Ferdinand and Isabelle, where he had gone to get the permission to sail in search of a new sea-route to the East. The book was published in the series: "Bibliotheque des Ecoles Chretiennes. Approuvee par l'Eveque de Nevers".
Acceptable, but rather worn copy, with school-prize certificate of the "Pensionnat de l'Epouse Wagener" tipped in on first endpaper, the prize awarded for Dutch language to Miss M. Rousseau, and dated at Roermond, August 21, 1860.- (Spine lost; sl. browned).
