[First edition]. 8vo (22 x 15 cms), pp.334, 36 photographic illustrations including 9 coloured, small map in text, SIGNED ON TITLE-PAGE BY SEVEN MEMBERS OF THE EXPEDITION, ink writing and red stamp on front pastedown, publisher's red cloth backed boards decorated with gilt motif, spine gilt lettered,slightly worn, original pictorial dust-jacket, with repaired tear on front cover; otherwise an attractive copy. This expedition, though unsuccessful, is considered to be one of the most important in the history of American mountaineering. It is a dramatic and tense story which nearly resulted in the destruction of the whole party during their descent.
