Der Schweizer Fotograf und Grafikdesigner Herbert Matter (1907-1984) gilt als Begründer des modernen Fotoplakats in der Schweiz. Anfang der 1930er Jahre integriert er das Medium Fotografie überzeugend in die bis dahin rein zeichnerische Reklamegrafik. In seinen grafischen Arbeiten verbindet Herbert Matter die visuelle Klarheit der Schweizer Schule mit der amerikanischen Pop-Kultur.

Texts in English, Czech, French, and German. The book illustrates Moholy-Nagy's work in painting, photography, and graphics. With an introduction by Siegfried Giedion and texts by Moholy-Nagy: 'From pigment to light', 'A new instrument of vision', 'Problems of the modern film', 'Once a chicken, always a chicken', a film script on a motif from Kurt Schwitter's 'Auguste Bolte'.
