Qu.-8°. - Bekanntgabe von Ort und Zeit der Lehrveranstaltungen "Anatomie der Drogen" und "Fossile Flora". - Der aus Görlitz stammende Botaniker bearbeitete mehrere Familien für die von August Wilhelm Eichler herausgegebene "Flora Brasiliensis", die tropische afrikanische Flora und die Flora des Kaiser-Wilhelms-Landes. Durch morphologische Studien suchte er die Stellungsverhältnisse der Blütenteile zu ergründen; Völlig neu bearbeitete er die Kakteen. "Schumanns wichtigstes Werk war die 1899 erschienene Gesamtbeschreibung der Kakteen' ( Monographia Cactacearum'), die erste umfassende Darstellung zu diesem Thema. Darin wurden die damals bekannten 670 Arten von Kakteen in 21 Gattungen zusammengefaßt. Auf Schumann geht die heute noch gültige Gliederung der Kakteen in die Unterfamilien Pereskioideae, Opuntioideae und Ceroideae (letztere heute Cactoideae) zurück" (Wikipedia, Abfrage v. 25. Unter dem Titel "Flora fossilis Grönlandica" separat herausgegebener Teil VI, 2 der "Flora fossilis arctica". Der 2. Teil erschien 1883. - Der Schweizer Botaniker, Paläontologe und Entomologe O. Heer (1809-1883), seit 1852 Professor in Zürich, bearbeitete die Ausbeuten von Expeditionen der Schweden, Dänen, Engländer, Russen und Amerikaner, besonders aus Polarländern wie Grönland, Spitzbergen, Novaja Semlja, Nordsibirien, Amurland, Alaska und Nordkanada. Seine "Fossile Flora der Polarländer" erschien 1868 bis 1883 in 7 Bänden. - Arctic Bibl., I, 6837; NDB VIII, 193.Broschur gebräunt, angestaubt und mit Randläsuren, Text und Tafeln in den Rändern etwas stockfleckig. Sonst ein gutes, unbeschnittenes Exemplar.

It was published seperately under the title "Flora fossilis Grönlandica". Vol. 2 appeared in 1883. - Some wear to the wrappers. Slight foxing in the margins. Otherwise a good copy.
