Shippey, Tom (Ed.): The Oxford Book of Science Fiction Stories, Oxford U. Press September 17, 1992 ISBN: 0192142046
,,These 30 SF tales, arranged chronologically from 1903 to 1990, cover a typically wide and uneven range in the genre. The omission of some authors might raise eyebrows--notably Isaac Asimov, Harlan Ellison, and Robert A. Heinlein, all known for their short fiction. Only three women are represented: C. L. Moore (whose The Piper's Son is written under the collaborative pseudonym Lewis Padgett), Ursula K. Le Guin and Racoona Sheldon (Alice Sheldon, better known under the James Tiptree Jr. pseudonym). Only Sheldon's The Screwfly Solution, a devastatingly scary story about misogyny gone mad, dates from the past 20 years, during which women have made serious progress in the genre; thus, the final third of the book is less representative than it might be. Standouts include Le Guin's 0. Henry-esque The Dowry of the Angyar, Gene Wolfe's frightening How the Whip Came Back, H. G. Wells's anticipation of modern weapons in The Land Ironclads, Thomas M. Disch's insightful Problems of Creativeness, George R.R. Martin's fascinating religious study The Way of Cross and Dragon and Frederik Pohl's The Tunnel Under the World, which opens with the now-classic line, On the morning of June 15th, Guy Burckhardt woke up screaming out of a dream.

Army Command and General Staff College: Medium Anti-Tank Defense; The Case for the Return of the Tank Destroyer, US Army 1989
CD ROM-New

006560-Medium Anti-Tank Defense; The Case for the Return of the Tank Destroyer 51 Pages1989 THIS DOCUMENT IS FURNISHED ON CDROM FORMAT This monograph discusses the nature of the medium range anti-tank battle and the inappropriateness of the Dragon missile for that battle. An examination of the Bradley Infantry Battalion concludes that the Echo Company is unnecessary. The Light Infantry Division requirement for an anti-tank gun system is also considered. The need for a cannon for medium range anti-tank defense is explored. Medium range anti-tank defense is the anti-tank battle fought from 2, 000 meters to close range. The nature of the Soviet tank threat and the speed of Soviet attacks are studied for their impact on missile-only defense. The historical use of the tank destroyer as a tank killer on the Eastern Front and the American misuse of the tank destroyer in the West are reviewed. Potential benefits from re-introducing tank destroyers are considered by examining the German experience in World War II. The substitution of the tank destroyer for the M-1 tank in an anti-tank role is a suggested cost effective change. The tank destroyer is proposed as a potential launch medium for the hypervelocity missile. Additionally, cannons mounted on armored cars is proposed as the option which could provide the Light Infantry Division with a better medium range anti-tank defense.
