Maddheshiya, yogesh: Myrica esculenta bark: Study for Anticonvulsant and Analgesic Activity THE BARK OF Myrica esculenta Buch. -Ham FOR ANTICONVULSANT AND ANALGESIC ACTIVITY, LAP LAMBERT ACADEMIC PUBLISHING, November 2010, Besorgungstitel - vorauss. Lieferzeit 3-5 Tage. ISBN: 3843364249
The plant Myrica esculenta Buch.-Ham ( Fam., Myricaceae) commonly known as Kaiphala or katphala. In India only one species of Myrica is available i.e. Myrica esculenta. The plant Myrica esculenta is one of the most important source of tannin in China but in India, specially in hill areas its medicinally important phytochemicals are widely used in traditional system of medicine. The present study carried out by air dried stem bark, extracted using ethanol as a solvent. On preliminary phytochemical screening of Myrica esculenta stem barks extract revealed the presence of phenolic compounds, tannin, glycosides, flavonoids, carbohydrates, proteins and saponins. In the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India, the bark extract of Myrica esculenta on TLC gives 6 spots, it means it contains 6 active compounds, but in the present study, bark extracts of Myrica esculenta gives 8 spots in their TLC experiments. It means it revealed another two active compounds which are present in bark extracts of Myrica esculenta. The study showed that the ethanolic extract from bark of Myrica esculenta can inhibit voltage dependant Na+ channels as Phenytoin in MES induces tonic seizures.

Mupondi, Lushian Tapiwa: Improving composting of pine bark by addition of organic wastes Effects of goat manure, sewage sludge & effective microorganisms on composting and nutritional value of composts, LAP LAMBERT ACADEMIC PUBLISHING, November 2011, Besorgungstitel - vorauss. Lieferzeit 3-5 Tage. ISBN: 3846537276
Pine bark is a growth medium of choice in South Africa mainly due to its availability and affordability. However pine bark on its own is difficult to compost due to its high C: N ratio, its acidic nature and presence of polyphenols. Conventional composting of pine bark involves the addition of urea fertilizer and this is costly. The study looked at a cheaper alternative for composting pine bark by combining it with organic wastes to reduce the high C: N ratio and as well raise its pH. Addition of microorganisms to increase the rate of decomposition was also looked at. The resulting composts were then evaluated as growth media. The composting results showed that goat manure was more effective than sewage sludge in improving the composting of pine bark. Effective micro organisms did not have an effect on composting of pine bark. Pine bark goat manure composts were more nutritious and had less heavy metals than pine bark sewage sludge composts. Evaluation of the resultant composts as growth medium revealed that pine bark goat manure composts were superior to pine bark sewage sludge and commercial pine bark alone composts.

Awwad, Akl; Salem, Nida: Biosorption of Heavy Metal Ions from Aqueous Solutions by Agrowastes Biosorption of Heavy Metal Ions from Aqueous Solutions by Agrowastes: Loquat Bark and Leaves, VDM VERLAG DR. MÜLLER, Mai 2011, Besorgungstitel - vorauss. Lieferzeit 3-5 Tage. ISBN: 3639354117
Biosorption of toxic heavy metals Pb(II), Zn(II), Cd (II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Hg(II), and Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solutions by loquat bark and leaves was investigated. The effects of pH, contact time, metal ncentration, biosorbent dosage, and temperature on the biosorption process were monitored . The experimental equilibrium biosorption data were analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms. Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) analysis confirms that - OH, - NH2, -C-O and -COO groups on loquat bark and leaves are one of the main active groups in metal biosorption process. The kinetic studies indicated that the biosorption of the metal ions followed well pseudo-second order model. The thermodynamic parameters Gibbs free energy ( Go), enthalpy ( Ho), and entropy ( So) changes were also calculated and their values indicated that the biosorption of metal ions on loquat bark and leaves was exothermic and spontaneous. It was concluded that loquat bark and leaves are an effective, low-cost, and environmentally friendly biosorbents for the removal of toxic heavy metal ions from aqueous

Kaushik, Vichitra; Lal Khosa, Ratan; Parcha, Versha: Evaluation of New Pentamethoxy Flavonol 'Cordiofolinol' as Anti-Inflammatory Principle from Haldina cordifolia Bark Extract, LAP LAMBERT ACADEMIC PUBLISHING, August 2011, Besorgungstitel - vorauss. Lieferzeit 3-5 Tage. ISBN: 3844387307
A novel Pentamethoxy Flavonol 'Cordiofolinol' (P3) has been isolated from anti-inflammatory activity guided fractionation of methanol extract of Haldina cordifolia stem Bark with a gradient of methanol in chloroform. Further P3 was screened for anti-inflammatory activity on carrageenan and dextran induced inflammation model in rats at the dose level of 50 mg/kg body weight. Treatment of inflammed rats with P3 has showed significant reduction in inflammation caused by carrageenan (P0.01) and dextran (P0.05). Hence P3 can be considered as the principle component responsable for the anti-inflammatory activity for Haldina cordifolia bark. The characterization of P3 was done by spectral studies like IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR & mass spectroscopy. On the basis of spectral studies the structure of P3 has been elucidated as 5, 7, 3', 4', 5' -Pentamethoxy Flavonol. This is a novel Flavonol isolated from the bark of H. cordifolia for the first time and given a trival name Cordiofolinol.
