Signed Limited Edition Crazy Horse, (Oglala Sioux Indian, 1840-1877), respected Chief and war leader of the Oglala Lakota who participated in the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876 against the Federal Government. He was fatally wounded while resisting imprisonment at Camp Robinson. This is a rare Limited Edition, bound in linen, numbered 89 of 100 copies, signed by Author, Eleanor H. Hinman, Editor, John M. Carroll, and Artist, Lorence Bjorklund of Hinman's interviews with: He Dog (Sunka Bloka, the last surviving representative of the Oglala grand councillors), Red Feather (younger brother of Crazy Horse's first wife), Short Buffalo, Carrie Slow Bear, White Calf and Little Killer, pertaining to the life and death of the great Indian Chief Crazy Horse (Tasunke-Witko). John Colhoff accompanied Hinman and Sandoz, translating the language and hand signs of this remarkable piece of history. Throughout the interview Hinman was amazed by the lack of hatred from these men and one woman who had witnessed most of their tribe slaughtered or die of malnutrition, white man's diseases or despair. Their way of life disappear: its economic base gone with the destruction of the buffalo and other wild animals, their tribal organization, and their native religion governed by nature all taken away. Included is a fold-out drawing by Lorence Bjorklund, famed Western artist, St. Paul, Mn. 1913-1978. Eleanor Hinman, Lincoln, Nebraska, 1899, feature writer for the Lincoln Daily, who is most recognized for her interview with Willa Cather, she had a strong interest in Native American history and culture. In 1929 she met writer Mari Sandoz ( Crazy Horse: The Strange Man of the Oglalas, 1942) through their like interest of Native American History traveled to the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations in 1930 to interview any Indians that would provide information on the life and death of Crazy Horse. This was inscribed by Editor John M. Carroll to Lynn D. Trusdell, ("who appreciates the real Indian -"7/13/1977. Lynn Trusdell was an important an Native American Indian art dealer and collector, who owned an antique shop in New Hope, Pa., she died in August 2008. Her world class collection Native American jewelry and art was auctioned at Bonhams and Butterfields 2009. To limitation page: "This edition is limited to one hundred and twenty-six copies: one hundred, bound with linen and paper, signed by the author, editor and artist, and numbered from one to one hundred; and twenty-six, bound with leather and hand-made marble papers, containing an original drawing by the artist, signed by the author, editor and artist and lettered from A to Z".
