Tahir Shah. In Search of King Solomon's Mines. London, UK: John Murray, 2002
Uncorrected Proof. 8vo, [xii]+240pp. Glossary, Bibliography. King Solomon, the Bible's wisest king, possessed extraordinary wealth. He built a temple at Jerusalem that was more fabulous than any other in the ancient world, heavily adorned with gold from Ophir. The precise location of this legendary land has been one of history's great unsolved mysteries. In this book, Tahir Shah takes up the quest, using as his leads a mixture of texts including the Septuagint, the earliest form of the Bible, as well as geological, geographical and folkloric sources. Time and again the evidence points towards Ethiopia, the ancient kingdom in the horn of Africa whose imperial family claims descent from Menelik, the son born to Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. ~~~ Author(s): Tahir Shah; Binding material: Paper; Binding state: Original binding; Class: Uncorrected proof; Condition: Fine; Edition: Not applicable; Jacket condition: Not applicable; Language: English; Pages: 240; Publication year: 2002; Size: Octavo..

GORDON, Pat[rick]. Geography Anatomiz'd: or, the Geographical Grammar. Being a Short and Exact Analysis of the Whole Body of Modern Geography, After a New and Curious Method. Nicholson, Sprint and Burroughs in Little Britain [sic], Bell and Smith, London, 1716.
8vo (17 x 10.8 cm), [24] incl. half-title and title, 428 pp., title page printed in red and black within double rule border, 18 engraved folding maps by R. Morden; some browning to 2 maps at end. Contemporary speckled calf, covers with single gilt rule, spine with raised bands gilt in compartments, red morocco label lettered in gilt, red speckled edges; lightly rubbed at extremities. Provenance: Earls of Macclesfield (armorial bookplate to upper pastedown, with motto 'Sapere aude', dated 1860). Fresh copy of this popular work, adorned with many charming maps of the world, continents and the main countries. The 11-page appendix is 'A Brief Account of the European Plantations in Asia, Africk, and America: As also some Reasonable Proposals for the Propagation of the Blessed Gospel in all Pagan Countries'. It seems that this copy has been bound without the publishers' ads at end, but with an added double-page skletch map of the world depicting lines of magnetic variation. Highly unusual, it actually shows only part of the world (America, South-East Asia and Africa with Southern Europe) and is reminiscent of Halley's celebrated maps at the time.
