A truly lovely book with 50 of Foster's best songs. 224 pages of music, text and wonderful illustrations. All the pieces have been arranged for piano with lyrics and vocal score. .With a lightly coloured lithographed front cover by T.H. Jones clearly of a minstrel and possibly a negro performer who remains unknown. This early version probably published around 1852/3 has no composer credit . Edwin P Christy who of course paid Foster $15 for the rights to the song was the leader of the Christy Minstrels. Davidson the publisher made a vain attempt to match the output and popularity of the Musical Bouquet series and for the early years of the 1850's he produced much popular material. T.H. Jones is noted for his brilliant work. on the early covers of the music hall 'great' Sam Cowell. Folio size with music.Condition VG Rare early British minstrel piece.
