The work was meticulously designed, printed and executed by the long-time Hearn publisher & friend Nakatsuchi Jumpei, at the Hokuseido Press. Hokuseido had published a large amount of Hearn's writings prior to Hearn's death in 1904, and was a close family friend with the Koizumi family. . The book contains [10] facsimile manuscript pages of the complete essay from title to last page, with Hearn's signature, "Tokyo, Japan Nov.15, 1900" followed by his "Koizimi" red cinnabar Hanko [seal/chop]. . *** KAZUO'S CERTIFICATION: Kazuo's name appears at the end in the 'Certificate' & Limitation statement colophon, signing each of the 350 copies, with mechanical number stamped. . *** PRINTED ON WASHI PAPER: The work is printed on specially prepared hand-made Washi paper by the eminent Fukui province papermaker Okamoto Shokai. The work is printed on hand-made watermarked Japanese vellum paper with Hearn's crest. . The book is bound in gold-stamped title on the covers, in decorated boards with silver flecked Washi paper. . It contains 10 pages of facsimile of Hearn 's manuscript with his cinnabar Hanko [seal/chop], with an important four-page English postscript by his son, Kazuo. . The book is contained in a buff board slipcase with title printed in black ink. . *** THE "CERTIFICATE" & COLOPHON: . Each copy was mechanically numbered then bamboo brush signed by Kazuo in Japanese with his two Hanko. . Contained in the original slipcase. The slipcase usually shows normal wear where the book is inserted & open corners where rubbing from insertion and removal occurs. Slipcases do their function and protect the book, therefor they will commonly have usual minor bit of wear, signs of use, rubbing, tiny bumps, scuffs and the like, which is to be expected. . The contents remains pristine, bright, clean and very solid no issues. . Each copy can vary, please carefully read the descriptions prior to ordering. . By and large each is an excellent copy, without flaws, most have a Mylar dust jacket to speak of, in the original matching slip-case, which has some very tiny points of wear, but solid as issued. .
