Beschreibung:

The purpose of this book is the presentation of the History of Modern Europe and the World since the outbreak of the French revolution. The theme of this book is the relations of the great powers of Europe to one another. The French revolution inaugurated a new epoch in the history of the human race and it gave a deathblow to feudalism. Napoleon`s astonishing rise to power, the vast scale of his achievements, which appealed alike to the imagination of posterity. The peace settlement that emerged from the congress of Vienna failed to satisfy the national sentiments. Metternich, the hero of the Vienna congress tried his best to put the clock back, but he was swept away by the wave of popular movement. The revolution of 1830 and 1848 had a deep impact throughout the continent, but it could not create either a united Italy or United Germany. The little Napoleon (Napoleon III) intended to be the hero of the drama, but he was a misfit. After 1848, Czarist Russia became the main prop of the political status quo in central Europe. Russia was defeated on its own group in Crimea. This demonstration of an unexpected weakness in the Czarist autocracy allowed two daring political gamblers, Cavour of Sardinia and Bismarck of Prussia, to unite Italy and Germany around their respective monarchs between 1859 and 1871. In an "Era of Armed Peace." Bismarck played the role of Juggler. But the accession of Kaiser William II changed the course of events and the world plunged into a catastrophic end (The First World War). The old states of Europe dominated the scene throughout the 19th century and now (20th century) they were pushed back into oblivion. In 1917 the Communist revolution in Russia and the proclamation of a rival American remedy-"National self-determination"-brought powerful new political ideologies to the fore. Both the USA and USSR deliberately withdrew from world affairs in the 1920`s, until new upheavals, centering in Germany and Japan, provoked World War II and a massive reassertion of Russia and American power. Since 1945 these two super powers continued to dominate the world`s political and military scene. In an age of conflict, a rising star in the Eastern horizon, India spread a new mantra- Panchsheel-a panacea for diseases like colonialism, imperialism, racism, etc. The present book will be of Immense help to the students, examinees of the various competitive examinations and it will also be attractive to those readers who seek a clear understanding of this period.
