Inhaltsangabe: The functional requirements of connective tissues in higher animals necessitated the evolution of complex and diverse proteins. These extracellular matrix macromolecules provide not only strenght and support, but also exert profound influences on cell behaviour. This book collates and presents key facts relating to these important macromolecules. It is designed to provide quick and easy access to up-to-date and pertient information. Each entry sunuumes essential details of the protein (human origin where possible) and comprises an introductory paragraph and sections on molecular structure, protein isolation, primary structure, structural and fttnctional sites, gene structure and references for in-depth reading. Structural and functional sites detail specific amino acid(s) where a particular stnictural and functional property is deteermined fully. When this function can be attributed to a specific sequence but is not narrowed down to a defined amino acid dequence, it is included in a cartoon of the polypeptide chain molecule and described under molecular structure. If a property is not assignable to a specific region it is described in the introductory paragraph. The authors have endeavoured to highlight repeat structures in the primary sequence by a visual presentation in the form of a cartoon. These cartoons emphasise the modular nature of many of the protein macromolecules and serve to highlight the importance of structural motifs in proteins. The book is compiled by members of one of the foremost centres of matrix biochemistry in the world, giving additional authority to each entry. It is an essential reference for those engaged in research on all the various facts of connective tissues. This is the fourth volume in the FactsBook series. It contains over 40 entries. Each entry has a common fomiat, using a minimum of text, and includes information on the sequence, ftmction, expression and physicochemical properties of each protein. The volume covers collagens, proteoglycans and noncollagenous proteins. Section 1: Introductory Material. Section II: Extracellular Matrix Proteins.
Praise for the Second Edition
"A major strength of this book is the authors themselves who are reputable and internationally known investigators of extracellular matrix research... a major change of this edition is the inclusion of matrix metalloproteinases involved in the deposition and degradation of the extracellular matrix... This is a well written and well organized book containing the latest
information about this diverse group of important biological molecules."
--Stephen Lam, PhD, University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, FOR DOODY'S ELECTRONIC JOURNAL
Reviews of the First Edition:
"The easy accessibility and organized information should make the ECM FactsBook a must in every ECM laboratory. For students in other areas, this comprehensive book is a useful guide to what might seem frequently to be a confusing array of molecules. For teachers, the schematic presentations of the different ECM molecules are useful. For scientists in the field, the book has a collection of the accession numbers to cDNA's. I strongly recommend the ECM FactsBook (and) recommend...the next edition."

Anbieterinformationen: We have been selling academic and scholarly books in Cambridge since 1996. Today we occupy an old warehouse on Coldhams Road, adjacent to the railway tracks leading to Ely, not too far from the airport. The site is called Restwell House. We are an internet bookshop, but visitors are very welcome. Some drop off a few boxes of unwanted books, some pick up a book to save on the postage, some just drop by to get to know us, or want to take advantage of the many bargains on our wooden shelves bookshop, which is distinct from the internet stock offered on the web. Our mission has always been to find new homes for the books we are looking after. If we cannot sell them online, we offer them at very low prices to our visitors. We try to give you a serious and dedicated service which is focussed on the individuality of each single book: its condition, its origin, sometimes even its smell. You come to us for real books, not just instances of ISBNs.
