Ophthalmology is often a neglected subject in the crowded Medical curriculum. At first glance it seems a private World of complex patterns and unfamiliar titles. But those who have shrugged It off, and hoped to get by, pay the Price later-as do their patients, not only because the Eye is a Diagnostic Window to the whole spectrum of vascular, neurological, Endocrine and metabolic disorders, to which the wise observer can gain insight, but because Pain around the eye is such a common and urgent complaint, Blindness such a formidable penalty. The ophthalmological problems we meet are in fact disarmingly simple. There are, in essence, three Groups of eye disorders : those which can lead to blindness, and must be recognized; the sore, red eyes, which need prompt relief; and those cosmetic blemishes which, in the main, although harmless enough, attract attention, and are so easily rectified. These the general doctor must learn to recognize, to know which need reference to the eye-surgeon, and which are urgent, and how to answer all the diverse questions that patients will raise. On the subject of eyesight, Old Wives have been telling tales since pre-history, and there is no shortage of Myth and fantasy that needs correction. This compact Book serves as a guide to common eye disorders and their management. It explains treatment in simple terms and seeks to avoid Jargon and technical details. It is intended for busy practitioners, as well as all those working in Fields related lo eye disease. Contents Chap. I : ANATOMY Chap. II : Examination : 1. Routine Eye Examination : i.
