Nayantara Sahgal is a novelist and political commentator with nine novels and eight works of non-fiction to her credit. She won the Sinclair Prize and the Sahitya Akademi Award for 'Rich Like Us' (1985), and the Commonwealth Writer's Prize (Eurasia) in 1987 for 'Plans For Departure'. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, she served on the jury of the Commonwealth Writer's Prize in 1990 and 1991.
