This report describes the results of a research project entitled 'Professionalisation of VET teachers for the future' (PROFF). The goal was to look at how increasing demands on teachers are being met in EU Member States and to identify cases of good practice. The study found that VET reform has had a major impact on organising teaching and teachers' working practices. It also showed the role of the VET teacher is changing. Today, VET teachers should work in teams and assume many more tasks than teaching, e.g. counselling, curriculum development, e-learning and administration. The study also points to a changing approach to teacher training: instead of individual competence development, focus is on organisational competence development involving other staff groups. Finally, the study examines the impact of the programmes in selected case studies and draws up a series of recommendations for policy-makers and practitioners.
