Buchbeschreibung Hardcover. Zustand: Very good condition. First edition. Octavo. 267 (1)pp. Original tan cloth with brown lettering on cover and spine, protected by modern mylar. Gray endpapers. "The fascinating, sometimes almost hypnotic, peculiarity of this volume is that it blends and synthesizes three books into one. Firstly, there is a novel of a life made up of rare ingredients: Socialism, Zionism, kibbutz, Bauhaus, national planning, architecture on a local, then on an international scale. In second place, there is the story of building a country, agricultural settlements, urban housing, hospitals, exhibition pavilions, universities, up to the reconstruction of a united Jerusalem. Finally, we have a record of an architect, his creative products, his space-time language in the dynamics of its numerous contemporary trends" (Bruno Zevi). Arieh Sharon studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau under Walter Gropius and Hannes Meyer. He returned to Palestine in 1931 and became a critical contributor to early Israeli architecture and urban planning. He participated in developing the first master plan of the young state, reporting to the Prime Minister Ben-Gurion. In the Fifties, Sixties, and Seventies he designed many high-rise buildings in Tel Aviv for the government and public institutions. Profusely illustrated with extraordinary b/w photographs and architectural drawings and plans. Binding with minor wear along edges. Gutter at inside front cover professionally repaired. Artikel-Nr. 51673
