Reseña del editor:
At least since his spectacular exhibition in the Romanian Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015, Adrian Ghenie (*1977 in Baia Mare, Romania) has been known to the broad public as one of the most interesting and unconventional painters of his generation. His works―painted in oils that have been scratched, applied with a palette knife, or thrown onto the canvas―have already gained entry into the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and have achieved one auction record after another in the art market. Yet neither Ghenie’s subjects nor his technique cater to the taste of the public: the history of the “century of humiliation”―which is how Ghenie refers to the twentieth century―its perpetrators and victims are the most important sources for his collage-like compositions. These subjects are joined by his positive heroes alike, such as Van Gogh and Darwin, and time after time, his selfportrait.

Buchbeschreibung Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Ever since his spectacular exhibition at the Romanian Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennial in 2015 at the latest ,Adrian Ghenie has been known to a broader art audience as one of the most interesting and idiosyncratic painters of his generation. His works-painted in oil, etched, troweled, or thrown-have already found their way to the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. On the art market they are close on the heels of auction records. Still, neither Gehnie's subjects nor his technique accommodate general taste: the most important source of his collage-like compositions is the history of the 'century of humiliation,' as Ghenie calls the twentieth century-its criminals and victims. These are joined by positive heroes such as van Gogh and Darwin, along with self-portraits.ADRIAN GHENIE (\*1977, Baia Mare, Romania) studied painting at the University of Art and Design in Cluj, Romania. He has had large solo shows at such institutions as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the S.M.A.K. in Ghent, the Palazzo Cini in Venice, and the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest. Ghenie lives in Berlin. Artikel-Nr. 9783775743525
