Philipp Blom obtained a PhD in Jewish philosophy at Oxford. He has worked in publishing and as a journalist and translator in both London and Paris. He first became interested in the wines of Austria in the early 1990s whilst studying in Vienna and has pursued this passion ever since, visiting the regions regularly. He writes for wine journals in three languages and contributes to Tom Stevenson's Wine Report. He is the author of a number of books, including The Simmons Papers, To Have and To Hold, Diderot, d'Alembert and the Encyclopedie which was published in 2004. He lives in Paris.
