Oct 13 This book has a very attractive cover. Inside you'll find 50 patterns for keeping baby toes cosy. This is a fabulous book full of contemporary designs for cute shoes, bootees, socks and even leg warmers. The designs are terrific, there isn't one I don't like. Almost a design for every week of the year. The patterns are divided into sections: Special Occasions, Fun, Cold Weather, Warm Weather and Cosy Socks. Most of the designs are knitted, a few are crocheted - how-to instructions are given at the back of the book. Each design is photographed on its own page followed by clear instructions. Patterns include simple stitches, through to stripes, ribs, cables, to lace and animal designs. Each pattern has multiple sizes from birth to 2 years, but most from 3-6 months. On the front cover flap is a useful ruler, on the back cover flap is a handy abbreviations chart. Superb book I am happy to recommend on all levels. * Karen Platt Yarnsandfabrics.co.uk/crafts * Feb 14 Everyone loves knitting for little ones, and you'll never be stuck for ideas with this collection of 50 baby socks and bootees. There are patterns for every season and every occasion, from everyday to special days. Our favourite design? The teeny tiny legwarmers, which are just adorable and so toasty for tots. There is a comprehensive techniques section at the back of the book, so regardless of your knitting ability, you can tackle any pattern you choose, or even all of them! * Knit Today * Mar 14 'Baby booties and socks' is a pretty book crammed full of beautifully designed yet simple to knit baby booties and socks. There are 50 designs and they are wide-ranging in their styles and colours. Most of the designs include sizing for six month old babies and one year olds. A good amount (though not all) contain sizing for newborns and three month old babies and sizing for two year olds. Most of the designs are knitted with two needles with a seam but there are approx a third which can be knitted in the round with double pointed needles. The book also contains a few crocheted booties and socks. There are five pages of instructions in total - with clear diagrams on how to crochet with seven stitches including how to increase and decrease. Also there are knitting instructions with detailed guidance on how to make a left and right slanting increase and how to graft and sew invisible seams. The yarn picked is always Bergere De France which is easy to get hold of in the UK and very affordable. If you are like me and don't mind sewing seams after knitting socks or booties flat then this is the book for you. If you can knit in the round with multiple needles and can convert a flat pattern then you could practice doing that with this book. I think if you are new or relatively new to knitting and are thinking about knitting a present for a family member or friend with a baby then this could be a safer bet than a garment tension-wise. I've found socks to be quite simple once you master putting stitches onto a holder to shape the heel. http://sewingisforgirls.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/book-review-baby-booties-and-socks-50.html * sewingisforgirls.blogspot.com *
