A fabulous resource for novices interested in spinning.-Handmade Living I really liked this book and it would have been very useful to have when I first learnt to spin. The anatomy of a wheel and how it works is described, ratios and tensions are explained. Whether purchasing a new or secondhand wheel, advice is given regarding the different types. Fleece preparation, hand carding and combing are covered, as well as drum carding, techniques for different methods of spinning, and appropriate uses for the finished skeins. There are sections on animal, plant and manufactured fibres, mixing and matching fibres and how to blend them. There is an abundance of problem solving sections and useful tips throughout, and also more than a dozen projects for knitting, crochet and weaving. This book is less technical and easier to read than The Ashford Book of Spinning by the same author.
