It then returns to Madrid to explore the work at the 17th-century Habsburg court, before introducing the transitions brought by the Bourbon monarchy. Janis Tomlinson traces the myriad influences reflected in the paintings of generations of artists from Sofonisba Anguissola, El Greco, Velazquez, and Zubaran to the unique accomplishment of Francisco Goya.
