An introduction by Gervase Jackson-Stops puts the designs in their historical context and shows some of the gardens as they are today. Gervase Jackson-Stops is Architectural Adviser to the National Trust. He curated the major exhibition The Treasure Houses of Britain and authored the accompanying book, The English Country House: A Grand Tour (1985).
