Ken Morris's journey began one cold Pittsburgh morning in 1935. In the middle of the Great Depression, he was going to see the country as a door-to-door salesman. Author Bob Morris deftly portrays many of the top labor leaders of the 1930s and 1940s, as well as the rank and file members who supported these labor leaders. In the case of the Briggs Manufacturing Company, it shows how a company that played loose with the law ultimately floundered, its Detroit heritage largely forgotten.

Bob Morris grew up in southeastern Michigan during the 1950s and 1960s at the knees of some of the greatest labor leaders in Michigan. These men and women told the stories that Morris has confirmed through his research for this book. As an adult, Morris has spent four decades developing public policy in Lansing-Michigan's state capitol. Morris currently resides in Canton, Michigan, with his wife, Terry, and their dog, Monco.
