I have lived much of my life surrounded by a small Amish community in Missouri, for twenty years. They are not the most traditional or insular Amish sects. Aside from electricity we were fairly modern and many of our homes simulated modern assets. We had indoor plumbing, bright lights and cushioned chairs. I Was Amish shows the Amish lifestyle as a unique religious experience in which the outside world remains blinded. In an effort to bring truth and reality to the inside life of an Amish girl, I wrote my story.
