Excerpt: ... Common Failure of Teachers to Labor to Convert their Scholars. There is a tendency in many teachers to rest content with "teaching the lessons "--with a regular performance of routine duty, with an indefinite hope that at some future time their scholars will be brought to Christ. These never put forth efforts for the immediate conversion of their scholars. Hundreds of thousands of young persons are in our Sabbath-schools unconverted. They are there for the purpose of being led to Christ. Many of them are surprised, and many disappointed, that those who teach them seem indifferent to their condition out of Christ. Yet these teachers go on grinding out weekly lessons, never pausing to take the scholars by the hand and to say, " Come, for all things are now ready;" "Now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation." Now, no matter for what reason these delay, they are almost inexcusable. They are missing the point of all their teaching.-Seek the conversion of your children not in the uncertain hereafter, not as something to be gained by them when they become men and women, but now. Seek their conversion at once in earnest, importunate, agonizing prayer. Seek it in hope, as something to be expected. Seek it in the use of every appropriate and available means. This leads us to consider, as the subject most vitally connected with the conversion of our scholars, The Teacher's Spiritual Condition. It is a law of the spiritual world, as well as of the natural, that " life alone begets life." In Christ alone is life. He alone can give life, spiritual and eternal, to your scholars. Your power to convert scholars will depend entirely on your union with Christ. If you are in a cold, backslidden state, following Christ afar off, do not attempt, in such a condition...
