I was given my first slot car track when I was 4 years old. Today I enjoy racing with my family and friends tremendously! I also have been racing with the NJ Metro Slot Car Club for many years, where the competition is fierce!! It does not matter if you race 1/32, HO or 1/24 scale slot cars, A Day at the Races is a book about racing and racing experiences. Like me, you’re probably someone who gets excited with the track, the cars, and the scenery of slot car racing. No matter which scale you race with, whether you race just for the fun of it or you get involved on a more serious slot car competition, the time you spend with it is always going to be memorable. When writing this book my goal was to create awareness towards slot car racing — a hobby that inspires creativity in kids and adults alike. It saddens me to see people at gatherings and parties in the video game age. Instead of interacting with each other, they just sit there staring at their phones, not talking, not running or playing around like we used to. When they turn it off there is nothing left to be accounted for . . . as the things they are playing with are unreal. Way too often, kids are left without any hands-on activity that could develop the intellectual side and provide them with the much-needed fun. They walk around with their 2-dimensional phones, “texting”, and playing video games, incapable of building, creating, or assembling anything. You can set up a slot car track on a small space and still have tons of fun; kids and adults are able to race together and interact and once the race is over, the model cars are still there. You can work on them, make them faster or simply display them as they look amazing. Slot cars offer the physical aspect of touching and feeling as well as creative thinking & assembly while being a perfect interactive racing game that can be played with family and friends, without having to stare at a screen for hours. The advancement in technology has brought up this game to the next level with introduction of excellent quality cars and tracks. Plus, with the recent introduction of digital cars and tracks, a totally new set of strategies can be applied to slot car racing.
