Thefe iflands are ten in number, and he re mained there only eight days, circumflances, perhaps, not permitting him a longer fiay.' Some of them, it is true, are very fmall; yet others would require many weeks to examine them minutely. Among the lat ter is the illand of Lipari, which is nineteen and a half Italian miles in circuit.
