"Cassese, the dean of the 'European' school of international law, has done the nearly-impossible. He has surveyed comprehensively all salient issues of an emerging contemporary world jurisprudence while simultaneously contriving to be comprehensive, fair and thoroughly engaging in style. The book is bound to become a classic in the same sense as the seminal survey works of H. Lauterpacht and J.L. Brierly, yet with a rather broader reach and distinctly contemporary focus."--Thomas M. Franck, American Journal of International Law "Essential for all students of contemporary international law who are interested in current thought and developments."--Choice "Cassese, the dean of the 'European' school of international law, has done the nearly-impossible. Reseña del editor:
This work is a general introduction to international law, considered in a political and historical perspective. Throughout, an effort is made to identify the ideological and political motivations underlying international legal rules and institutions, and to analyze them in the context of Western, socialist and developing countries. The text also covers certain topics often neglected in traditional works, such as the historical evolution of the international community and the law of economic relations and development. The book should appeal to legal students, lawyers interested in the background and context of this subject, and political scientists who want to know more about international law-making.
