This is a comprehensive and even-handed examination of the "clergy abuse crisis". Jenkins dissects the underlying causes of the general perception of an epidemic of abuse. He finds that, although abuse exists, the extent of the problem has been grossly overstated, and the Church wrongly stigmatized for complicity.

About the Author: Philip Jenkins is a Professor of History and Religious Studies at Pennsylvania State University. His books include Intimate Enemies: Moral Panics in Contemporary Britain and Using Murder: The Social Construction of Serial Homicide.
